Land Cruiser 300: Why the Legend Still Leads the Segment

A new chassis, a twin-turbo heart and the same unbreakable reputation — we spend a week with the flagship.

Few vehicles carry a reputation as heavy as the Land Cruiser. For decades it has been the vehicle of choice for those who need to arrive — through floods, over broken roads and across long distances — without drama. The 300 Series had a difficult brief: modernise everything while changing nothing that matters.

A new foundation

The 300 sits on a completely new ladder-frame platform that is lighter and stiffer than before. The result is immediately noticeable on the road. Body roll is reduced, steering is sharper and the cabin feels far more insulated from rough surfaces than its predecessor.

The twin-turbo V6

The large V8 has given way to a twin-turbocharged V6 that produces more power and noticeably more torque. Paired with a ten-speed automatic, it pulls with real authority from low revs and cruises quietly at highway speed. Fuel consumption, while never frugal, is a clear improvement.

“It is still the vehicle you would choose if failure simply was not an option.”

Inside the cabin

The interior finally matches the price. Soft leather, a large central display, ventilated seats and a quality of build that feels engineered to last for twenty years. Third-row seating remains practical for occasional use, and the boot is generous with the rear seats folded.

Ownership

Land Cruisers hold their value exceptionally well, and well-documented examples with genuine auction grades are always in demand. When buying a reconditioned unit, look for a 4.5 grade, a clean inspector's report and a verified service history. Our current stock includes several examples we would be happy to show you in person.
